LIFE OF A COCONUT
“Life of a Coconut” is an installation designed for the Literature Festival Keralam. The word Keralam comes from “Kera,” meaning coconut, which becomes the core of the concept. The installation reflects the life of migrants from Kerala, people who return home once a year, reconnect with their roots, relive memories, and interact with others before leaving again for work and life elsewhere. The pavilion is designed as a concrete stepped amphitheatre. Behind the steps, hooks are integrated where people hang coconuts. Fresh coconuts represent people returning home. Over time, the coconuts begin to dry, and after one or two months, they are fully dried. On the final day, the coconuts are burned, symbolising their departure back to distant places. Yet, the permanent concrete structure remains, waiting for the next return.
